"THE ROAD IS BETTER THAN THE INN" The best definition of success I've ever found goes like this: "Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal." Success doesn't lie in the achievement of a goal, although that's what the world considers success; it lies in the journey toward the goal. We're successful as long as we're working toward something we want to bring about in our lives. We're at our best when we're climbing, thinking, planning, working. When we're on the road toward something we want to bring about. Children are happier on Christmas morning before opening their presents than they are Christmas afternoon. We're happier on our way out to dinner than we are on the way home. We're happier going on vacation than we are coming home from it. And we're happier moving toward our goals than even after they've been accomplished, believe it or not. Here is how I know someone is successful -- If you are able to give from your abundance then you are successful. If you are able to donate money, spread happiness, inspire health, propagate love, share knowledge, motivate people, etc. then you are successful.

I like to agree with you Njue..You do have a point actually.
ReplyDeleteBut I am tempted to believe that success is cumulative. It is the achievement of a series of small goals that accumulate to form the bigger picture. The journey can not be worth your while if there is no city at the end of the road. A person can not be termed as a successful lawyer if they get straight A's in school and never get to practice law and win cases.
One must establish where it all ends then they are successful if the process shows a trend to reach their goal...
The journey makes success a relative affair but the goals set give us a standard of determining if the person really is succesful
'success is cumulative' couldn't have said it better... many people think that his speech at the democratic convetion made the man... but so he could talk at that convention, didn't Obama first have to be a senator, to be a senator didn't he have to be a democrat, to be a democrat didn't he first have to be a citizen, to be a citizen didn't he first have to... and so on and so on.. we could trace it back to didn't he have to be born.. and probably even beyond. sucess is the acculmualtion of a complex series of events and occurances- that we are sometimes not aware of ourselves - that we just cann't begin to single out any one of them... all we can do is set our goal... move towards it.. and appreciate the series of small achievements that move us closer and closer each day towards our goal... even when its not within sight, even when there's a likelihood that we may never really get there..
